The best applications to monitor your sleep and rest better

Everybody we need to sleep and rest, and although about eight hours of sleep a day is recommended, it is true that each person, also depending on their activity, may need a little less sleep. However, regardless of the number of hours we sleep each day, what is really essential is to rest well because there is no use sleeping for many hours if we wake up listless, tired, with body aches, etc. When this happens to us, not only will we perform much worse in our tasks that day, we will also be in a bad mood, sad, and we will even transmit these feelings to those around us.

As you can see, sleeping well and resting is an inalienable need on which research continues to this day. Not consuming drugs or alcohol, avoiding excess stimulants such as coffee, tea or energy drinks, as well as staying active during the day, are some of the keys to sleeping better. But without all this you still can't get to rest as you should, maybe one of the following apps to monitor your sleep help you to improve little by little.

We Fit

Although we are on an Apple-themed blog, we are going to start with one of the competing brands, Xiaomi. For those who want to monitor their sleep and assess their level of rest without spending excessive money, I recommend the Mi Band 2 quantifying bracelet and the Mi Fit iPhone application.

For a price of around 25 or 30 euros, you will be able to fully track your sleep, check your hours of deep sleep and light sleep each night, see from what time to what time you have slept, and even visualize in a graph the progress of your sleep hour by hour and night by night. This it will help you to leave bad habits behind as you see that you sleep better and rest more.

Beddit

Beddit and Sleep Monitor, recently acquired by Apple, is another of the best devices and applications to fully track your sleep. This company has a sleep monitor called Beddit 3 which can be found at Apple at the price of 149,95 euros.

As you can see in the image, it consists of a slim and flexible sensor which is placed between the sheet and the mattress, under the pillow, and collects all the data related to our sleep, analyzing it and sending it to its iPhone application.

The analysis of these data is carried out from the scientific principle of ballistocardiography (BCG), which measures the mechanical activity of the lungs, the heart, our snoring, movement, and so on.

Sleep ++

If you have an Apple Watch, with Sleep ++ you won't need anything else to monitor your sleep. Like I had with the previous devices, Sleep ++ will record our moments of deep sleep and light sleep based on our movement using the accelerometer of the  Watch. In addition, as soon as you wake up, the app will show you that information and synchronize the data with Health or with the app you use through HealthKit.

As you may have already guessed, the downside is that you should make sure you have the watch charged with a battery, and you should postpone charging it for a time other than the night.

Sleep Pulse 2 Motion

This is an application very similar to the previous one, but at a cost of € 4,49. Sleep Pulse 2 Motion makes a tracking your heart rate through Apple Watch sensors and your movement during the night and analyze the results showing you a detailed analysis every morning that you can use to check if the measures you have taken are actually helping you sleep better.

Naturally, this is a minimal sample of devices and applications that will help us sleep better Thanks to the monitoring of our sleep cycles, however, the truth is that no matter how good and complete these or other apps are, they will be of no use if we do not go to bed every night Mattresses of good quality that really allow us to rest as well as we deserve.
