The brand manufacturing Ford vehicles has announced that its multimedia system SYNC3, with support for applecarplay, is now available in all its ranges of 2017 vehicles. SYNC3 can already be used in SUVs, light trucks and electric vehicles of the brand, although at the moment only in U.S.
The arrival of SYNC3 will allow CarPlay to be installed on already released 2017 models such as the Fusion, Mustang and Explorer. For the other models like the Focus, Edge and Super Duty, this advantage will arrive in the United States in late 2016.
Ford already confirmed in January 2016 that CarPlay and Android Auto would be compatible with 2017 models that included the SYNC3 platform beginning with the Escape in May 2017. The brand has also added apps like Spotify, Pandora, Ford PASS and AccuWeather.
Ford updating its vehicles with Siri Eyes Free
Last December, Ford announced the arrival of Siri Eyes Free, the hands-free system to use the iPhone while driving, at more than 5 million vehicles between 2011 and 2016 through the SYNC 3.8 software update.
The brand confirms that more than 15 million of its vehicles around the world are already equipped with the platform, although it seems that a large part of them still carry a version that is still incompatible with CarPlay. Ford expects its on-road vehicles to be upgraded, facilitating the arrival of SYNC3 for 2016 vehicles as well.
The advantages of CarPlay
The Apple CarPlay platform includes applications such as Maps, Phone, Messages, Music, Podcasts and other third-party applications, such as Spotify, to the vehicle's multimedia panel. Beyond a simple entertainment center, Apple CarPlay can be managed with Siri assistant and car drivers to access the most common iPhone features.
Apple's platform for vehicles was launched in the second half of 2015 and its filming has already been extended to some of the most relevant manufacturer brands: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, BMW, Nissan, Hyunday and Kia. CarPlay is now available in more than 100 new models from 2016 and 2017.
