McLaren CEO confirms he had talks with Apple

Apple buy bargain mclaren

At the end of September, the Financial Times newspaper reported that Apple was considering acquiring a part of the British Formula 1 vehicle manufacturer McLaren, acquiring it entirely or just making a strategic investment of each at the launch of the Apple Car. But it was not the only medium, as both The New York Times and Bloomberg stated that Apple had been in talks with the British firm for some time and that instead of buying it, the Cupertino-based company would make a large investment instead of buying it, as the company's market price would far exceed Apple's intentions in the auto sector.

A few weeks later, Apple completely abandoned the project of launching a vehicle of its own, a project that it had been forced to paralyze due to the continuous problems it was encountering in the development of the same, problems that some car company managers had already warned the company about.

Two months later, the head of the company said in an interview he gave to Reuters that McLaren Automotive was in talks with Apple but they did not progress towards a definitive proposal. In addition, he also ruled out any purchase attempt by Apple.

When rumors of a possible partnership between the two companies began to spread, McLaren spokesperson claimed they were not negotiating with Apple. The reporter who leaked this news, affirmed that McLaren's statements were not true and that both companies had sat at the same table more than once to try to reach an agreement that would satisfy both parties.

McLaren manufactures 1.654 vehicles each year, high-performance sports cars with similar features to Formula 1 models. These vehicles are priced at $ 1 million each. Apple's chief marketing officer, Phil Schiller, has stated on several occasions that his vehicles include a McLaren.
