Check the battery status of your MacBook as if you were an Apple technician

MACBOOK BATTERY. Drums

La apple notebook battery make the difference with respect to those of other brands, since in laptops such as MacBook Pro can reach up to 7 hours of use without recharging it. In the characteristics of the computer, Apple specifies that this time is taken taking into account certain conditions of use.

On certain occasions, some users notice that their equipment begins to fail on the issue of battery, realizing that it does not even reach half the time that is specified.

In the event that you are one of those users, you must bear in mind that the time data that Apple advertises They take into account, for example, that the measurement is made from a newly created user account, without running any application in the background, with the brightness at 50%, without screensavers and without any active service (Wifi, Bluetooth, file sharing ...). Even so, the equipment does not comply with what was announced and you decide to take it to technical service to verify what is happening. Have you ever wondered how Apple technicians check battery life?

The question is that you don't have to search the net much to find forums where there are users who complain that these measurements are somewhat unrealistic and do not conform to reality. However, according to specialists, these data are usually relatively accurate if we stick to the use that Apple declares with them.

In this post we are going to explain how you can make that measurement yourself and check from time to time the real state of your battery, or if you are in the case of a user who really does not do well, have a measurement before taking it to the technical service.

We are going to carry out the process from the terminal, in which we will introduce a very simple command that will allow us to determine the exact duration of the battery under a certain use. The command is designed to make a reading every so often and store the record of all those measurements when the computer runs out of battery.

The command that we must enter in the "Terminal" is the following:

pmset -g pslog >> ~ / Desktop / pslog.out

When we execute the command, we must leave the terminal open and wait for the computer to shut down completely. Once the process is finished, when we turn on the equipment again, we will find a file called "pslog" on the desktop, which, opened with TexEdit, will show us the data collected.
