Coffee Lake chips boost the speed of the 2019 iMac

New iMac

We already have the First Geekbench iMac's of 2019 that were recently submitted. In the information you provide us John Poole of Geekbench, we see significant performance increases, thanks to the chips Coffee Lake that Intel mounts on these computers.

Comparatively, we find substantial improvements model by model. Strikingly highlighting the 27-inch iMac with 9Ghz 9900-core i8-3.6k chip, which brings out the impressive figure of 32.292 score. We will see how this top of the range behaves with cooling, although Apple has had a long time to work on it. The rest of the teams also receive speed increases.

As we said, the highest increase is received by the 8-core model, which in percentage increases by one 66%. The next device that grows in speed compared to its predecessor of 2017 is the 5-inch iMac 27k, which offers yields between 6% and 11% higher if we use a single core. This figure increases to 43% to 49% if we use multiple cores.

But the increase does not end there. The base model of the 27-inch 8-core iMac is a super powerful machine. Using a 5 Ghz i7600-3.0k, it offers scores of 5.222 on a single core versus 4767 for its predecessor and 20145 versus 13682 for the 2017 model. In some cases, users comment that it was foreseeable this improvementSince two years have passed since the previous iMac and technology is improving rapidly. On the other hand, it is likely that Intel is getting the batteries, given that the competition shortens the field, with chips with lower consumption, this being the weak part of Intel.

On the other hand, Poole points out a relevant fact. Performance improvements on the 2019 iMac models arise from frequencies and counts of the highest nuclei. However, the architecture has not received any update. If we take into account this given, and in the words of Poole, the iMac of 2019 they have not advanced enough to justify a renewal of the equipment. Along with the processor update, the 2019 iMac receive Radeon Pro Vega graphics and faster RAM than the previous one.
