Do you want to set the screensaver on your Mac?

One of the things that exists in any operating system worth its salt is the possibility of configuring the screensavers. In macOS it will not be less and that is that Apple has had this option implemented since its inception. However, the startup of the screensavers It can be managed depending on what we have configured in the System Saver options that we can find it in System Preferences> Energy Saver.

Now, this is not the only thing we want to tell you about in this article and it is that what I really wanted to eliminate from my Mac is for the screensaver to run on the login screen.

When you start a Mac, the first thing it shows you is the login screen where you must choose the user and enter your credentials if you have not previously deactivated it. When you enter the Finder desktop, all those options that you have configured in the Energy Saver and in the Desktop and screensaver item begin to run. If what you want is that the screensaver runs after a certain number of minutes, in the drop-down you select the time and you would have it configured, taking into account that it also depends on the time that you have configured in the Economizer so that the equipment goes to sleep both when it is connected to the mains and when it is running on battery.

This is the normal operation of the screensaver, that is, it can be configured to start working once we are inside the system. If what we want is for the screensaver to never jump, what we select in the drop-down is Never and we will have the operation closed. Now, if what you want is what I have been looking for, what is the screensaver does not start at the login screen in case you do not start the session immediately we will have to do it via a command in Terminal and it is that it is a change in the hidden parts of the system user.

The command that we have to use for this is the following:

sudo defaults write / Library / Preferences /com.apple.screensaver loginWindowIdleTime ****

Where the * is the time it takes to jump the screensaver. If you don't want it to jump you must put a 0 (zero)

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.screensaver loginWindowIdleTime 0
