Duet Display thoroughly, we have already tested it

duet-I'm-from-mac

Ago a few days ago we presented a new application for Mac, iPad and iPhone designed by former Apple software engineers that came stomping and is that with it we can have the iPad or iPhone screen as a secondary screen of our Mac.

It all started as an open secret, but in a few days its price has risen to 13,99 euros. The truth is that at first, it seems that the price may be excessive, but after trying it We can tell you that, for 13,99 euros, you have a 9,7-inch screen in the case of the iPad as a secondary of, for example, your MacBook Air, which in the case of users who make use of programs that need it is appreciated.

We have been using both the iPad and iPhone applications with the Mac for a whole day and they have worked perfectly. Is about a system so clean and fast that you hardly need more than to install the applications on the devices. The first thing you should do is download the Mac application from the its developers page. Once installed, the computer will indicate in a window that you need to restart the computer to adjust the graphics card to the new possibility that the Duet Display application will offer us.

Now we have to do the same on the iPhone or iPad. For this, we will have to pay for the application, since, while the version for Mac is free, the versions for iPhone or iPad have a cost of 13,99 euros. Notably The application is unique for iDevices, being able to use it both on the iPhone and on the iPad with the same payment.

Since we want you to be very clear about its operation before buying it if you want it, we explain the process in detail:

  • We go to the Mac and enter the Launchpad to open the application duet.
  • As soon as we open it, in the top menu bar of the Finder we can see how the application icon appears and a drop-down in which we are informed that we have to connect an iDevice to the Mac either with the lighting cable or 30 pin dock and open the duet application in it.

  • Now we go to the iPad, for example, and open the application, after which we will see the following screen in which we are informed that you are looking for the Mac. In a few seconds the iPad screen becomes an extended Mac desktop screen to the right of it.

From that moment, the functionality of the iPad screen is total. Being connected to the Mac by cable, the delay is negligible and we can navigate through the Dock, through the applications or through the menus as if we meet on the Mac. One of the things we can tell you is that when we place the cursor on the iPad screen If we want the Dock to appear on the iPad, we just have to bring it to the bottom of the screen and we will see how the Dock disappears from the Mac screen and appears on the iPad. If we want it to reappear on the Mac, we do the same procedure on the Mac screen.

Regarding the resolution with which the images are displayed, we can highlight that the definition of them, despite being using in my case a first generation iPad Air, They have a slight pixelation but nothing important if we have the iPad at a distance of about 50 centimeters from the eyes.

Now, we have to be clear and you have to know that when you connect an iPad, as its screen height is practically the height of the MacBook Air screen, when passing windows from the MacBook Air to the iPad, they fit perfectly. The same does not happen with the iPhone, which in my case is an iPhone 6. The image appears cropped for which you need to enter the duet settings on the Mac to select a lower resolution so that it auto-adjusts by reducing it.

In short, we can tell you that the duet application, due to its simplicity of configuration and its brilliant performance it becomes one of the first options we have to be able to create a secondary screen with up to the first generation iPad and models prior to the current iPhone by using the charging cable and without delays in the movements we make of both the cursor and the windows.

You can download it from the App Store: duet (€ 13,99)

    Hello
First, congratulations and thanks for the post.

I wanted to ask a question: now I have my iMac connected to a second screen via displayPort.
Could I have 3 screens using the iPad as a third with this app?

    Thank you!

I have him with an Ipad 2 and a MacBook air working with FCP X and it goes perfect. You can see the events on the second screen (iPad) and you gain a lot of space to work. Perfect

This application has given me problems. I have removed the option to mirror the Mac screen in AirPlay

    Has it happened to anyone?
