On the popular crowdfounding platform Kickstarter a new project called Dune case, an external PC case that mimics the cylindrical design of Apple's latest Mac Pro.
Dune Case: Mac on the outside, PC on the inside
Dune case it is available in black or gold. Made of aluminum, the project promises "an innovative case" that is a "sleek and stylish" alternative to standard PC cases. The page does not refer at any time to the Mac Pro, but rather presents the project as an original idea.
Although inside Dune case is different from the design of the Mac Pro Lacking the unified ventilation system that is characteristic of the Apple model and that allows to absorb and disperse heat, the external visual similarities are impossible to deny, with only one difference: this PC case is larger than the Mac Pro case. .
“Its cylindrical shape promotes natural airflow for excellent thermal performance and provides the freedom and flexibility to customize settings. The conventional approach to airflow management is to move it horizontally through the PC, leaving many areas without circulation or recycling of hot air. The Dune Case design promotes superior thermal dynamics by pulling air vertically up and out through its vented lid; aids natural air flow and keeps the temperature low. »
While a Mac Pro has a starting price in Spain of € 3,449, Dune case for PC is sold at a presale price of $ 159. So far it has raised almost $ 50,000 of the $ 130.000 needed with still 26 days left until the end of the campaign, however, given the obvious similarities to the Mac Pro, there is a possibility that Apple will make an effort to close the project before that this reaches the necessary financing.
