Flamingo, an interesting multiservice messaging client

With a greater proliferation of social networks as time goes by, messaging clients are also born with them to be connected and in contact with our friends and family at all times, see examples such as Messenger in Facebook, Gtalk (now Hangouts) in Google ... That is why at a certain time depending on where we are talking we can have a few conversation windows open with different services running.

This is why Flamingo arrives, an application that brings together two of the main services and any other that makes use of the XMPP protocol developed by Google, to have all our contacts in one place to be able to talk to them without having to enter different pages or open three applications at the same time.

It should be noted that it also has a series of limitations and is that due to service restrictions when using third-party APIs, you cannot use the group chat or video / audio features in Hangouts as well as in Facebook, a really significant loss and that takes quite a few integers from the usability of this application. However, if we simply want to chat without using any other add-ons, it seems like a great option. In addition, it also gives us the possibility to send files directly through Cloud App or Droplr if the file upload service within any of them is down or cannot be used, well thought out and appreciated.

Other features are:

  • Multiple chats with the possibility of gathering them in a single window.
  • Inline previews for images, videos and tweets. Supports CloudApp, Droplr, Instagram and YouTube.
  • File transfer via direct connection (compatible with Messages, Adium and other clients), CloudApp and Droplr.
  • Reply to messages from the notification box in OS X 10.9.
  • Complete conversation history with quick message search and many filtering options.

The price of this app is 8,99 euros and can be downloaded through the developer's official website and through the Mac App Store. As I have already said, a good option but of course not essential and somewhat expensive for what it offers, especially if we take into account the restrictions.
