Greenpeace urges Apple to make products that are easier to repair

Greenpeace ListTop

In pursuit of the ever-hopeful goal of achieving a greener and more sustainable world, Greenpeace has urged tech companies and device makers, including Apple, to assemble products that are more durable and easier to repair, thus reducing electronic waste and avoiding excesses of many polluting assets.

The result of this study conducted in collaboration with iFixit, is quite surprising. Among the products analyzed, apart from the entire range of Apple products from 2015 to the present, we also find devices from companies such as Microsoft, HP or Dell.

The ranking is surprisingly topped by the iPhone 7, which has turned out to be the most repairable product in the Apple product range. In addition, Apple products stand out for their durability (not so much for their repairability). The latest MacBooks Pro and iPad Pro are among the worst-rated products overall. The maximum score is obtained only by some products from companies such as FairPhone, Dell and HP.

In contrast, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book, occupy the last repair positions, obtaining a scant 1 out of the maximum of 10. However, in recent years, Apple has achieved several recognitions by Greenpeace, giving it the "A" ranking for environmental care and holding in high regard the advances in energy optimization and renewable energy in Cupertino.

Apple also excels at recycling its products and even in its offices and stores around the world. Obviously, more can always be done to take care of the environment, and Greenpeace will be there to remind us.

For that purpose, they have enabled this site in collaboration with iFixit to request large multinationals to be more efficient with your production lines, avoid unnecessary expenses and manufacture more durable and repairable products. You can contribute your grain of sand by signing the petition in the very page that Greenpeace has made for it.
