A couple of weeks ago we informed you about the fight between Apple and HBO to get the rights to the next television series that the acclaimed director of the latest installments of Star Wars (episodes VII and IX) and series such as Fringe, Lost, Alias… Plans to produce.
Apple has produced a checkbook in recent weeks and is closing agreements with a large number of production companies, to make both comedies and dramas, but science fiction, at the moment there was nothing, beyond Amazing Tales. Finally, It seems that the HBO experience has been able to pay off Apple's money.
This new series, whose name is Demimonde, of which very little data, is about an "epic and intimate fantasy and science fiction drama, centered on a world battle with a monstrous and oppressive force". JJ Abrams knows a lot about the latter and we just have to hit him a look at the latest Star Wars or Star Trek movies.
It seems that the main reason for JJ Abrams to decide to accept HBO's offer, is related, not only with the experience that the company already has in the audiovisual sector, something that Apple lacks completely, but claims it has liked the treatment HBO is giving Westworld, one of the great series that HBO has aired last year.
The only thing that is causing Apple's idea of pulling their checkbook to start producing their own content is that many actors and actresses are seeing how the money that Apple puts on the table is very difficult to reject, something that a in the long run many other production companies such as HBO or Netfix will not be able to afford it. This Apple transfer policy has begun to raise blisters in the film industry and we'll see how it ends.
