Thanks to the compatibility of iPhone, iPad and Mac devices with the HEIC format, we can save a large amount of space when taking pictures on our devices, since they take up less than half that of the traditional JPG format. The same happens when recording video with the H.265 codec (HEVC) format that also reduces the space it occupies by half.
However, this format is not yet widely used in both other mobile and desktop operating systems, so on more than one occasion, we have surely been forced to convert images to a more compatible format in order to share it with others. This conversion we can do it one by one through Preview.
But if we want to convert a large number of images in HEIC format, the process is not very complicated with Preview, but it is quite cumbersome. I'm talking about the HEIC Converter application, an application that allows us to convert 100 images in HEIC format to JPG or PNG in just 6 seconds in medium quality. If we want to modify the final quality, an option available before making the conversion, we can select it, so that the quality is almost the same even if the size of the final file is increased.
The operation of the application is very simple since we only have to drag the images to the application icon so that the conversion begins. This application only works with the applications that we have stored on our hard drive independently, not with images stored through the macOS Photos app.
