This past Monday Apple released the update for the Apple TV to version 6.1 while also launching iOS 7.1 on the other devices of the brand. This update a priori seemed that did not include great news no changes beyond a new function to hide the channel icons in the main menu.
However apparently there is a hidden feature in the new firmware from which no mention made in the media and which is actually quite important, this refers to the discovery of new Airplay connections using the Bluetooth protocol.
Normally the negotiation of connections over Airplay is carried out with Hello, but now the option to search Airplay sources via Bluetooth when scanning is in progress, this means that Bonjour does not necessarily need to be on or working.
This is great news for educators and businesses as Bonjour could sometimes block certain networks and thus it will not be necessary to change its configuration so that it works and we can carry out the mirroring between our iOS device and a screen connected to the Apple TV. The fundamental requirements are that the iPhone or iPad is updated to version 7.1 of iOS and that in turn the Apple TV is obviously in version 6.1.
For now on Macs, testing on bluetooth with Apple TV has not worked since this discovery in the Bluetooth exploration requires version 4.0 of this protocol to work in this mode. It is possible that it will be extended to more devices in a future update.
I have not understood anything. 🙁
