How to access web pages on Mac that require Internet Explorer or a PC

Safari-location-service-0

A while ago we spoke in soy de Mac of an option in Safari that did not allow knowing how to activate the Development menu in Safari and today we are going to see one of those functions that allows us to use this menu, it is about viewing or accessing web pages on Mac with the Safari browser that require Internet Explorer or a PC.

This does not usually happen as often in our day-to-day browsing as it could happen a few years ago and it is partly thanks to the fact that the websites are in HTML and CSS that they are perfectly compatible with the Safari browser. Although it is true that from time to time some plugins are required to surf the net, the most important ones are perfectly integrated in Safari and do not present problems of use. In the event that for some reason we cannot access a page because it requires the Internet Explorer browser or a PC (usually old websites) what we have to do is access the Safari development menu and activate the hidden menu to 'pretend' and make the page or site believe that we are using Internet Explorer, a PC or a browser other than Safari.

So we are going to follow this small tutorial with very few and really simple steps that will facilitate access to all the content that you initially need from a PC with Internet Explorer or a browser other than Safari. The first step is to activate the Developer menu. To activate this hidden menu We are going to open a Safari window and click on Preferences. Once open we have to go to the advanced menu (right tab) and activate Show the Development menu in the menu bar.

Now we have selected this menu and the hidden option will appear in the upper menu Development. Once we have access, the option will remain selected forever and will show us the fixed menu, I personally recommend not leaving that menu active unless we are going to use this Development option many times. That said, we only have to click on it while we have the web open that requires Internet Explorer or PC and click on the second option: User agent.

In this lower image we already see all the available options to simulate that we are browsing from a PC or another browser that is not the native Apple one. If we want to make the web we are browsing believe that we do it from a PC we have to use the option "Google Chrome - Windows" o "Firefox - Windows" and if it does not work with these two options we will try with "Internet Explorer".

Now we can access the web simulating that we navigate without Safari.

I repeat, it is very rare to find web pages or places on the network that do not allow access from the Safari browser directly and without the need to carry out this little trick, but some remain. On other occasions we may find that even using this small tutorial, web browsing works because it requires other codecs or plugins that are not compatible with Safari and it may not work. If we have this problem We can only solve it by using Windows directly and for this we can use a virtual machine on the Mac, Parallels or directly use a PC to perform our task.

    Hello,
Very good site and posts !! I have a problem and it is that Safari in developer mode does NOT show me Internet Explorer as an option
I went to preferences, clicked on Developer Mode and then I went to Development / User Agent where it only shows me 4 options from Safari, Edge, 2 from Chrome and 2 from Mozila
How can I make some Internet Explorer show me? I need it to know of a provider, that only uses that technology and their site does not work in anything but IE, a sensitive information.
    Thank you very much

In the event that internet explorer does not appear as a user agent option, what is the string that I should use?
