How to set up payments in Apple Pay

Although Apple Pay has not yet officially left the United States, many of us are already looking forward to starting to use the new mobile payment system implemented by Apple so let's see how to configure Apple Pay on our iPhone.

Setting up Apple Pay

Apple Pay is the new mobile payments platform that combines various technologies such as NFC and Touch ID so that we can forget about physical credit and / or debit cards once and for all. The system really offers great security and ease of use, the two great assets of its success. If you are not yet familiar with this system at Applelised you can meet the keys to Apple's new payment system.

Before setting Apple Pay keep in mind some prerequisites:

  • you will need a iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus to make purchases in physical stores since they are the only models that incorporate NFC.
  • Until it leaves the United States borders, you must reside in the United States to use it, although, if you have a card from that country there is already a way to use it all over the world.
  • Keep in mind that the first card you register will be configured as the default card but you can change the main card from the Settings menu → Passbook → Apple Pay and press Default card.
  • your device must be updated to iOS 8.1, the first version to support Apple Pay
  • Apple Pay does not have an individual app but is integrated into Passbook

How to pay in physical stores using Apple Pay

To use Apple Pay in physical stores there are two methods; both use the NFC chip of your iPhone 6 with Apple Pay and also both require you to authorize the payment with your fingerprint through Touch ID:

Apple Pay works outside the United States

  1. If you press Touch ID at the same time that you bring your iPhone to the terminal with NFC, the payment will be made automatically, using the card that you have configured by default so, if you have several cards, make sure you have the one you use the most there .
  2. If you place your phone on the terminal without touching Touch ID, the Passbook screen will open for you to select the credit card you want to use and then authorize the payment with Touch ID.
