How to delete iPhone backups on macOS Catalina

One of the novelties that we saw in the macOS Catalina version and that many users were looking forward to was the removal of the iTunes application or tool to make backup copies of our iPhone or iPad, save music or even podcasts. With its elimination the backups are now done in the Finder And it is precisely from the Finder where we can manage each and every one of the backups we make of our iOS devices on the Mac.

We know that many of you no longer make backup copies on the Mac since you directly use iCloud for it, but in both cases we can manage the copies from our Mac. In my case I make backup copies on my Mac but they can be managed directly from the Finder. Once we have the device connected to the Mac we simply have to go to Finder and find the team name in the menu on the left. If it is the first time that we connect it, it will ask us "Trust the computer" for what we accept and continue.

Finder

At the bottom of the window just above the bar that shows us the capacity and data stored on the equipment, three available options appear: "Manage backups", "Back up now" and "Restore backup". Once we have synchronized the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch as you can see in the upper screenshot we will be able to select these options and in this case the one we are interested in is "Manage backup copies", from there we can manage the copies made, deleting the old and freeing up space.

In the case of iCloud copies it is even better since we free up space in the cloud for new copies and the steps are the same as when we make copies on the Mac. From the Finder we can manage the iCloud copies to save space. Remember that you must always have a backup of your device, don't delete them all.
