How to install an AirPrint printer on macOS

As technology has evolved, documentation and stationery in general has gone from physical to digital format, which not only allows us to save money on paper but we also do it on ink cartridges, without forgetting the benefit to the environment.

A few years ago, when we bought a new computer, we also bought a printer, but as the years have passed, printers have stopped being sold as before, which has allowed them to evolve to offer more features and technology.

Printers with AirPrint technology are the most comfortable on the market, since they allow us to print any document from any device, be it a computer, tablet or smartphone. If you plan to renew your old printer and you are considering buying one that implements this technology, in this article we show you how to install an AirPrint printer on macOS.

The main advantage that this technology offers us is that we only have to plug it into the mains and then associate it with our Wi-Fi connection. From that moment on, any device that can print using this technology, such as iPhones and iPads, will be able to print without having to install any application on their device.

However, if we want to print from our Mac, si need to install it. To associate it with the computer from which we want to print, we must follow these steps:

  • First of all we head up System preferences.
  • Then we click on Printers.
  • With the printed on and associated with the same Wi-Fi network where our Mac is connected, click on the + sign located at the bottom left of the right column.
  • At that time, our Mac it will recognize which printer is available on our Wi-Fi network.
  • By clicking on it, at the bottom of the dialog box where it is displayed, details will be displayed of it together with the technology that will be used when connecting: AirPrint. Click on Add.
  • Next, a dialog box will appear showing us how macOS is configuring and installing the printer on our computer.
  • Once it has been installed, we can use the printer from our Mac without having to connect it at any time through the traditional USB cable. What's more, no need to use manufacturer's software to take advantage of all the functions that the printer offers us.
