IMac can't find trackpad

trackpad-2

This is one of those situations that in my personal case I cannot say that it happened to me directly, but it did affect me directly this morning with a co-worker who had been for a couple of days. your iMac stopped detecting the trackpad unexpectedly. This is something that I was faced with for the first time a few hours ago and wanted to share it with you even though it is not something common in iMac. Well, the steps to follow in case the Mac does not detect the trackpad are simple and in principle there is no need to fear for anything since it can be a specific problem like my partner's, but there will be some cases in which it will be necessary to connect another mouse or even going through the SAT with the Magic Trackpad will become inevitable.

The first thing to check

Batteries. This is the essential step to be sure that our trackpad works well and for this we will look at the green led light if it lights up on the old trackpads and on the switch of the new ones that is visible green. In any case, it is recommended to change the batteries in the old trackpads and put them to charge in the new ones.

Steps to follow after batteries or charging

In the case of being the old model like the one we have right at the head of this small tutorial, the step once the message appears on the iMac that it does not detect it is to press once to turn off the trackpad and then press and hold until the device found message appears. Once this message appears, in just a few seconds the pointer will move and we will be asked to click on the "Link" box in the dialog window to link with the Mac. In principle, it will be solved.

If we have the new model, we connect the Lightning to USB connector cable to the Lightning port of the device and connect the other end to the Mac, noting that the switch is green (ON) and this will automatically link with the iMac.

If it still doesn't work

In these cases, which are the ones where the hardware may have a problem, the best thing to do before going to the SAT is to connect a mouse or any other device to check that it is not the Mac that has the problem, but when clicking on the Magic Keyboard We hear the error sound or even click on the Plya button and iTunes opens, it may be a trackpad failure.

In the case that we have solved this morning, the Trackpad has not been connected until we have made the longest press from stopped, so do not despair if for any reason it happens to you.

Lately I must say that it has happened to me with the three devices, (keyboard mouse and trackpad) as they disconnect they reconnect. At some point I thought it could be the device but on the iMac it worked fine and on the mac mini server it would interrupt and then vice versa.
Could it be interference from the Time Capsule?

    Hello Eduardo,

I could not tell you the reason but in the case that I speak the colleague turned on the iMac in the morning and it did not connect so I doubt it is because of the Time Capsule. It is something strange but it is not something new either since some users happen to them randomly

    regards!

impossible for my imac to detect the trackpad3 via bluetooth. Even connected by cable, then in preferences to adjust the movements of the trackpad it still does not detect it, so at the moment I can only use it in the simplest way (not having it configured nor the right click works). I don't know what can happen.
I have tested the trackpad 2 on a macbook pro and if it detects it and lets configure it. In turn, the imac links with other devices via bluetooth. Any suggestion?

    Thank you
