A couple of hours ago the presentation of WWDC 2020 has concluded. The "big week" for the 23 million developers who program their applications for the Apple environment. In said keynote, Tim Cook and several collaborators have presented the news that from now on are implemented in the different firmwares of the company's devices.

The novelties of this edition have not been as surprising as in other years, since thanks to the leak that took place at the beginning of the year of the iOS 14 code, we already had the opportunity to "guess" some of these new functions. Let's see what they have explained to us regarding the Apple TV operating system, tvOS.

tvOS is the specific firmware for the devices  Apple TV. It is an adaptation of iOS for a device that does not have a screen, and must be adapted to the large sizes of the televisions where it is connected.

Probable release date

The first thing we must indicate is that this is a presentation, and that there is still time for the new version to be completely finished. No launch date has been indicated, but if we look at what happened with tvOS 13 last year, it is most likely that it will follow the same schedule with tvOS 14 and we will not see it on our Apple TV until September.

Picture in Picture, audio sharing and HomeKit

The function is incorporated Picture in Picture, which means that the videos will continue to play in the corner of the screen even when you exit the application. This makes it ideal for multitasking, especially considering that this new feature will also have native iOS 14 support for iPhones.

It improves from photo and audio sharing. The fluid exchange of media between devices is one of the hallmarks of the Apple ecosystem, and it is taking a step forward with tvOS 14. With AirPlay, the Photos application on the iPhone or iPad will be able to display photos and videos in a resolution of up to 4K.

Audio sharing assumes you can seamlessly move what you are listening to between your devices. This means that audio playback on your iPhone, iPad or Mac can be moved to your Apple TV with the touch of a button. Now, you can resume your favorite show on the living room TV without having to take out your AirPods.

Homekit

Your home will be more insurance with tvOS 14. Apple TVs are often connected to large televisions, which makes them very conducive to integrating home security.

tvOS 14 has several enhancements in this area, with the option to display sources from home security cameras on your TV via the new HomeKit app. For cameras with support facial recognition, Apple TV will also be able to recognize who is knocking at your door, and give you their name if you have it in your contacts.
