It is clear that if Apple does not sell a 4K or higher resolution monitor for computers like the new Mac Pro, the least it can do is make its system fully compatible with the monitors that other manufacturers such as LG, Samsung are releasing or Dell, among others. In this article, we want to inform you that Apple has updated its support document with 4K screens to add a new 31-inch monitor presented by the LG brand and that our colleague Carlos Sánchez introduced us a while ago.

Display model is 31MU97, being the same a new and very good option, to be able to squeeze the maximum power of the Mac Pro or MacBook Pro Retina.

Currently the apple company supports certain 4K screens, the list is not very extensive. We can list compatibility with 4K Ultra HD displays of the brand Sharp with its PN-K32 model, the Dell UP3214Q, Panasonic TC-L65WT600, ASUS PQ321Q and now the LG 31MU97.

In the case at hand, the new LG screen would be compatible with Mac via Mini DisplayPort or HDMI 2 ports only on OS X Yosemite, leaving for the previous systems the monitors that we have listed before. This LG 4K monitor operates at a refresh rate of 30Hz or 50Hz (30Hz over HDMI and 50Hz over Mini DisplayPort), according to the support document that Apple has updated.

It is only a matter of time before Apple updates its own monitor to new diagonals and of course, to 4K or 5K resolution like the one it has included in the new iMac with Retina display.

The new LG 31UM97 is available in the US at a price of $ 1399.
