It's clear that Apple has nailed it with its new ARM processors. If we were already impressed last year by the new Apple Silicon with their M1, the appearance of the beasts M1 Pro y Max M1 is going to mean a new revolution in Macs.
As the first MacBooks Pro with these processors have not yet reached the first privileged users who have requested them, we have to trust the performance that Apple announces. And one of those claims says that the M1 Max's GPU outperforms the almighty. PlayStation 5. Is it true? I bet so….
Yesterday Tim Cook and his team showed us the new MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max processors. While waiting for the first tests, which we will see as soon as Apple delivers the first orders, a news that the Cupertino have leaked has caught our attention: Their tests affirm that the integrated GPU of the M1 Max processor outperforms the NextGen PlayStation console. 5 from Sony. Almost nothing.
Many teraflops
Apple has reached this conclusion as follows: it tested the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Max processor, with a 10-core CPU, a 32-core GPU and 64GB of RAM compared to the MSI GE76 Raider and the Razer Blade 15 Advanced. Notebookcheck was used to assess GPU performance and estimated how many teraflops the new M1 Pro and M1 Max processors can handle. And these have been the performance results:
- M1 8 cores = 2,6 TF
- M1 Pro 14 cores = 4,5 TF
- M1 Pro 16 cores = 5,2 TF
- M1 Max 24-core = 7,8 TF
- M1 Max 32 cores = 10,4 TF
So by boat soon, maxed out M1 Max processor with 32 GPU cores can tackle more teraflops of graphics (10,4 TF) than Sony's PlayStation 5, since that console reaches a maximum of 10,28 teraflops. These are figures that the company has leaked, and we do not know under what circumstances they have been obtained.
So let's wait and see test of performance and more real speed when the first units sold arrive in the hands of its users next week. But I am convinced that the performance of these processors will not disappoint us at all.
