Mac sales fall again in the last quarter of 2018

MacBook

As the Cupertino-based company announced through Tim Cook, iPhone sales during the last quarter of 2018 have not been good. But it seems that they have not been the only products that have not had the demand that the company had anticipated, since the Macs continue the downward trend of the last few quarters.

During the fourth quarter of 2018, Apple shipped 4920 Macs to the market, while in the same period last year it shipped 5.112, which represents a decrease of 3,8%. But, despite the fact that less equipment has been shipped, Apple has managed to increase its market share, going from 7.1 to 7.2%, a significant increase if we take into account that the number of shipments from all manufacturers decreased by 3,1 million Of units.

Apple Sales 4 Quarter 2018

During the last quarter, the manufacturers that have seen equipment shipments drop the most, have been both ASUS and Acer, who have experienced a drop of 10.7 and 18.3 respectively. However, the Asian manufacturer Lenovo has increased shipments of equipment by almost 6%, going from shipping 15.697 devices in 2017 to 16.628 devices during the last quarter of 2018.

In second position, we find HP, who has seen how heSales are down 4.4% compared to the same period last year. In third position is Dell, who like Lenovo, has seen the number of computers shipped increase by 1.4% compared to the same period last year.

The Gartner firm, which has produced this report, also shows us the total sales figures of the main manufacturers. Lenovo has put 58.5 million computers on the market, followed by HP 56.3 million. In third position we find Dell, a company that has shipped 41.5 million computers, followed by Apple with 18 million, 5% less than in 2017.

Under pressure from smartphones and tablets, the PC industry has seen less and less equipment sold for 7 years, Although in the last 2-3 years, the number of computers sold each year seems to have stabilized, since not everyone, mainly companies, can give up the applications available on a PC or Mac that at the moment do not have their equivalent on a tablet.
