The month of October has just begun and if you have not already started classes, you will be about to do it, as is my case, that in a month I will face the teachers of the Master. Faced with this situation, perhaps many of you are considering the possibility of renew your current computer for a new team that more than meets the needs of your studies.

Assuming that what a student needs today is, above all, portability, we will do a comparative review of the main features that differentiate the MacBook Air from the new MacBook, hoping thereby to help your important decision.

MacBook Retina vs. MacBook Air

Classes begin and with them, lots of new tasks, group assignments, notes, final degree or master's projects, and to all this we have to add the tasks of our work, our personal life, hobbies and of course, entertainment . Having the ideal team is essential so that everything runs smoothly and without always unwanted headaches.

For those who need extra performance and power, for example for graphic design tasks, the MacBook Pro will always be the best option of all: retina display, portability, a lot of power, these are characteristics that make it the perfect equipment for these users. But in this case we are going to focus on the majority users.

We start from the basis that every student needs maximum portability without sacrificing power, performance and reliability. A team that can always go with him, from home to class, to the library, to the cafeteria, everywhere without the arm or back suffering from it. Based on this premise The two best options that Apple offers us are the MacBook and the Macbook Air.

Comparison MacBook Air and MacBook Retina

The new MacBook is a marvel in the eyes thanks to a renewed ultra-slim design, various finishes for all tastes, a butterfly keyboard that makes typing a pleasure, a super-vitaminized trackpad with Force Touch, however, according to our needs, not everything they are advantages and it is possible that for this reason you finally opt for the MacBook Air.

Screens

Leaving aside the design, the main attraction of the MacBook is its 12-inch retina display that with a resolution of 2304 x 1440 offers impressive sharpness, well above the 1440 x 900 resolution found in both the 11,6 and 13 ″ MacBook Airs. The difference is noticeable, I can assure you: the images and text look much clearer, the colors are more vibrant and the photos show a high degree of detail.

Ports

When it comes to connectivity, this is where the MacBook may not be the ideal laptop for everyone. It only has one USB-C port that allows you to charge your computer, synchronize devices and connect all kinds of accessories for which, in most cases, you will need a USB-C to USB adapter that starts from € 25 in the Apple Store. The thing is expensive up to € 79 if you want to connect more things, such as an external monitor while your MacBook charges. Now, if you are one of those who use the cloud and only work with your laptop, you will not have any problem.

By contrast, the MacBook Air features the MagSafe 2 connector for charging, two USB ports, a Thunderbolt port, and even a card reader on the 13-inch model.

Both keep, at the moment, the 3,5 mm jack headphone jack.

Autonomy

Autonomy is another essential factor for every student. In this case the thing is clear, MacBook offers up to 10 hours of battery life placing between 9 o'clock for the 11,6 ″ MacBook Air and 12 o'clock for its older brother.

Weight :

If we talk about portability, we also talk about weight. The MacBook wins the battle with its 0,92 kilos compared to 1,08 and 1,35 kilos for the 11,6 and 13-inch Air models. In practice, the difference between the first two is not so noticeable, the thinness of the new MacBook will be more so.

Speed

For the approach that we are giving to this comparison, we must know that both with one model and another, we are left over. Even so, The Intel Core M processor in the MacBook is not as powerful as the Intel Core i5 and i7 processors however, its greater energy efficiency means that the notebook does not have a fan.

Conclusion

The MacBook is lighter and more beautiful, more energy efficient, its screen is wonderful, but it is also more expensive. The MacBook Air offers greater speed and versatility when connecting accessories, while being cheaper.

And now, the decision is yours alone, but beware! Because if they arrive new MacBook Pros in OctoberWe also see changes in these models, so you could still hold on a little more. Or maybe you are thinking of an iPad Pro with its accessories? Well, we will deal with that in a future post.

In my humble opinion, I think that the Air is for people who require mobility without too much weight, businessmen, musicians, diplomats, photographers and all those dedicated to art. The Pro, according to me, is more for those who work in the office or for the professor in class, our university students etc.
