2018 MacBook Pro has the fastest SSD of any laptop

Last week Apple put the 2018 MacBook Pro on sale with a multitude of new features. In addition to the new functions that this Apple laptop brings for professional work, we find important advances in Hardware, such as SSD disks.

Therefore, this is one of the novelties, the SSD drives found in 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pros. Among the multiple analyzes that we will find these days, The Laptop Mag website analyzes the speed of these drives compared to other Apple competitor laptops. The conclusion of the analysis is that the 2018 MacBook has the fastest SSDs on the market.

To perform the tests, A 13-inch MacBook Pro was used, equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor with quad cores at 2,7 Ghz and 16GB of RAM. Built-in SSD contains 512GB. If we stick to the data provided by Apple, this equipment is capable of reading content at 3,2GB / s and writing at 2.2GB / s. Regarding this, it should be noted that the higher capacity SSDs, in principle, can reach higher speeds.

For this a 4,9GB file was used and Dell XPS, HP Specter, Huawei MateBook, Asus ZenBook, Microsoft Surface, as well as the MacBook Pro from 2018 were compared. An external SSD was used in the transfer. In addition, a BlackMagic disc was used, according to the tester, the results were as follows:

I had to double-check when I saw how fast the new 13-inch MacBook Pro was duplicating the 4,9GB file. It took 2 seconds, coming out at a speed of 2,519 megabytes per second. That's crazy.

So we also ran the test with a BlackMagic Disk Speed for macOS, and the system returned an average write speed of 2,682 MBps.

To be fair, Apple's relatively new APFS file system is designed to speed up file file copies using a technology Apple calls Instant Cloning. But a victory is a victory.

APFS appeared in macOS High Sierra and allows the copying of small and medium files, practically instantly. Apple's competition has not yet implemented anything similar, and if they want to implement it, it must be Windows that creates a similar storage system.
