Microsoft stops offering support for Office 2011 for Mac

Shortly after the official presentation of what would be the new version of Apple's operating system for Macs at the Developer Conference held last June, and when the first betas began to be in the hands of developers, many were the users that they manifested having problems with the 2011 version of Microsoft Office.

A few days later, Microsoft itself confirmed that this version of Office for Mac, I would stop having support in September, so at no time would it be updated to be fully compatible with macOS High Sierra, the new version of Apple's operating system for Macs. That date has arrived. Since September 10, Office 2011 for Mac has stopped having official support from Microsoft.

As is usual, this does not mean that some large company or government can reach an agreement with Microsoft to continue offering support privately and paying per box, as it happened when Windows XP stopped receiving updates a few years ago, an operating system that was found on a million computers in public administrations around the world.

Microsoft has provided support for Office 2011 for seven years. During that period of time, the company has launched the Office 365 subscriptions and the Office 2016 version for Mac, a version that is currently the one that users have on hand to be able to continue to use Apple's office suite on their computers if they don't want to use the Office 365 subscription.

After discontinuing support, Office 2011 is now you will not receive any updates on security issues, so it can become a risk if we continue to use it every day to open and create documents that we receive or send over the Internet. Microsoft is recommending updating the latest version of Office to take advantage of all the new functions that the company has been adding over the years, in addition to taking advantage of the security improvements that they integrate.

Well, it is what it touches, it is a version already quite left behind and they have to focus on the new tools or versions to continue innovating and updating.

Long live Ubuntu, everything is free there. If you pay for Office it is because you want to.
