Now you can read discs in APFS format thanks to the free Retrofit Kit application

One of the problems that we can have when we have one of the Macs with memory disks in APFS format is the incompatibility of these disks with disks in previous formats.

That is, it may happen that your work environment uses APFS disks, with macOS High Sierra, but you got there without realizing that your other Mac or your colleague's Mac does not have or cannot update to the APFS format. If this is the case, Retrofit Kit allows you to read APFS format disks when you are working in HFS +.

Now, the guys from Paragon Software, a company specialized in gateways between file systems, has released a kit that allows APFS to be read in the following operating systems: 10.10 Yosemite, 10.11 Capitan and 10.12 Sierra. The discharge we can do it in the following link.

After the installation of the Kit, the volumes in APFS are perfectly readable. What's more, we can carry out many more daily tasks: locate the necessary files, open them as if that file were in the current system or even transfer them to another Mac. In principle, we can carry out any daily task thanks to Retrofit kit.

However still the software does not allow editing of these files, at the moment it is read only. The developers comment that they are working on it. In this update of file editing, the possibility of the disc format to another format and the verification of its content should arrive.

In one way or another, software of these characteristics is more than necessary. Recall that the vast majority of iMac continue to work with Fusion Drive (a hybrid between mechanical drives and SSDs) and what to say about Mac mini, which mostly continue with mechanical drives (unless the owner has updated the Mac). Instead, all Mac laptops on the market use SSDs. It is true that when transferring information between one Mac to another, working with iCloud Drive or another cloud service, it speeds up the steps a lot, but if you want to read the content as it has been done so far, with the current file system from Apple, it's not that easy. If this is your case, this application is very useful.
