Open your favorite Finder folder from the macOS Dock

One of the things that most surprises users when they first open a Mac is the Dock Of applications. Having our most recurring applications at hand, always in order, and with the possibility of hiding if you don't need access to them, is the perfect idea if you want to gain productivity in our daily work. Without going any further, iOS 11 has implemented it from the moment you decide to make a more professional and productive system. The Mac Dock can be configured in many ways, you put the icons you want and in the desired order.

But in the Dock not only fit applications, we can also add system folders. For example, if we frequently access a folder to locate and open documents, we can open the Finder and locate it, or better if possible, have it available in the Dock. In addition, as we will see below, it is not a direct access to the folder from the Finder, but it opens in the same way as the downloads folder that we have by default.

Doing it is as simple as select a Finder folder. If it is not a folder, if not a set of files, you must include them within a folder. To do this, select them and press the right button or a swipe with two fingers simultaneously on the trackpad. Now click on New folder with selection.

Now, we must drag the folder to the dock. Just click and drag to the dock. We can already access the folder from the Dock, but perhaps the default customization is not the most optimal. One configuration that I recommend is:

  • Right-click on the folder that is already in the Dock. A menu opens. Change, in the section Show as a binder.
  • Right-click the folder in the Dock again. Now modify view content as a reticle.

This setting displays the contents of the folder in a format similar to Finder, but is open more quickly and directly. Finally, if you don't need this folder, just click and drag it out of the Dock and it will be automatically deleted.
