Pocket is an application whose main purpose is that we can read our articles, watch our videos or enjoy the web content that we like, on any device that is supported and has this application installed. The main feature is that we are synchronizing that web content through an extension in our browser and they will automatically be synchronized in our desktop application to be able to see it later whenever we want, even without having an internet connection except for the videos.
"Read it later" was the name by which this application was known before your interface renewal being now clearer and more minimalist in all aspects, although basically the basic function of this application has not changed, consuming web content. Synchronization improvements have just been added in addition to the launch of the Mac-specific desktop program.
Now we have another update that allows share the content with our friends, acquaintances or relatives with a simple click. - New option to send to a friend: A new and easy way to share content with the people who matter most to you. With just a few taps, you can share Pocket content with friends and family, along with a comment and featured quote. They will receive an email with the link, and if they have Pocket, you will be informed immediately within the app.
- Receive shared content: Once a friend sends you content with »Send to a friend«, it will appear in the inbox, where you can see their comments along with the featured quotes they chose to share with you.
- Share shortcuts with a friend: The new redesigned Pocket integrates in the Share menu the most prominent and recently used services, such as Twitter, Facebook, Evernote or Buffer. Once you have shared with friends or family with »Send to a friend«, you will find shortcuts to share content with the friends you want in the Share menu.
- Notifications, performance improvements and more: You can optionally activate push notifications to know when a friend shares something with you in Pocket. This update also includes a number of bug fixes and performance updates.
I don't think it's an application of the so-called essentials but if it does its job, it makes things easier for you when it comes to remembering the content that you have seen in passing, but that you have not had time to enjoy without having to look for it again, all surrounded by a nice "wrapper" and now on top with more social possibilities.
