Issues with macOS Sierra's new iCloud sync and our ADSL fee

macos-sierra-2

From Soy de Mac We continue testing the new ways of working that have been implemented in the new macOS Sierra. In my case, I have turned to the synchronization utility for the files located in the Documents and Desktop folders. Now, not today I am going to talk to you about how the synchronization system works itself and that is I have already written it in previous articles.

What I want to say today is that we must be very careful not only with the amount of storage we have in the Apple cloud but also in how is our normal way of working and how good is our internet connection.

If you have decided to activate the automatic synchronization of the Documents and Desktop locations, you have to bear in mind that when you place a file in one of these two locations, the computer automatically starts uploading it to iCloud in the background. and therefore your internet connection starts working.

So far everything is correct except that your Internet connection is not symmetric or has a low upload speed to the network. When we hire a rate to surf the Internet, few are the users who realize that what they are selling us is really the download from the Internet and not the upload of files to it. Many are the rates that have, for example, 100 MB of download speed of content to our computer while the upload stalls at a measly 10MB. That is changing and certain companies already offer symmetric fiber at 300 MB which allows us to be as fast downloading as uploading information to the network.

When we activate automatic synchronization in macOS we are, unintentionally, accepting a saturation of our Internet network if we do not have one of those symmetric rates of 300 MB. In my case I have an ONO rate in which I have 30 MB download and 3 MB upload. It is clear that I have what I pay and that is that with the 20 GB of Yoigo on my mobile I have plenty for my daily use. But let's go where we are, keep in mind that Before activating the automatic synchronization of macOS Sierra you should stop and think about what download and upload speeds you handle otherwise when you put a GB file on the desktop, the system will start uploading it to iCloud and the router will saturate the router that will stop giving data to the rest of the devices you have connected and therefore, you will notice a drastic drop in browsing speed to the point that nothing works for you.

Finally, another thing that I do not like is desktop sync and it is that it is a place of passage of hundreds of thousands of files at the end of the months that in this case will be automatically synchronized with the energy expenditure that the computer supposes (worse in a laptop using the battery) is continuously sending data that will sometimes end up in the trash.
