Problems updating to iOS 10 public beta? Here is the solution

Solution to iOS 10 public beta 1 installation issue

At the beginning of last week, as Apple had already announced during the Worldwide Developers Conference, the company launched the first public beta of iOS 10 however, some users are reporting problems at your facility.

"Error updating software, there was an error downloading iOS 10 Public Beta 1"This is the message that many users are receiving on their iPhone and iPad devices, but don't worry, it has a solution and we will tell you about it below.

iOS 10 public beta 1, "update failed"

Many users are eager to update our devices to the beta of iOS 10 to take advantage of all its improvements in Photos, Messages, Music, Notifications and much more. And it seems that the more desire we have, the more problems arise. That is precisely what is happening to many users who, when trying to download and install iOS 10 Public Beta 1, have encountered an error that prevents them from doing so.

This problem can be due to two reasons fundamental:

  • Our impatience led us to install the developer beta, which now interferes with the installation of the public beta.
  • The download failed and the software was not downloaded correctly.

Luckily, the problem is not serious and the solution, as I will show you below, is quite simple.

The public beta of iOS 10 and macOS Sierra is now available

The solution to the problem: option 1

We will start with the simplest situation. If you didn't install the first beta version of iOS 10 that was only aimed at developers, the problem is that the software has not been downloaded in the correct way, probably due to any type of error or failure in the process. In this case, all you have to do is follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app and go to General → Storage & iCloud → Manage Storage.
  2. There should be the iOS 10 public beta 1 software downloaded. Delete it.
  3. Now, just in case, turn your iPhone or iPad off and on again.
  4. Go to Settings → General → Software update.
  5. The availability of the software will appear again. Download it and the installation shouldn't give you a problem.

The solution to the problem: option 2

The second case: if you had previously installed the iOS 10 developer beta. In this case, we must delete the previously installed profile as this is the one that is interfering with the installation.

The steps to follow in this case are the following:

  1. Open the Settings application on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Follow the General route → Profile and device management that you can find almost at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Now remove all "iOS Beta" profiles that you have installed, including the iOS 10 public beta profile (this will avoid errors).
  4. Go back in the Settings app and go to General → Storage & iCloud → Manage Storage.
  5. If the iOS 10 public beta 1 software is there, remove it.
  6. Restart your device by pressing and holding the Home and Wake / Sleep buttons simultaneously. Once the apple logo appears on the screen, release both buttons.
  7. The next step is to reinstall the iOS 10 public beta profile and to do this, go to the Apple page using the Safari browser. Just in case, don't use any other, just Safari.
  8. Install the profile on your iPhone or iPad as you have done before.
  9. After the device restarts, go to Settings → General → Software update.
  10. The software update will be available again. Proceed to download and install again.

Concluding

If you have followed all the above instructions, in a few minutes you should already be enjoying all the news in iOS 10 Public Beta 1 on your iPhone, on your iPad and on your iPod Touch.

It does not seem that there is any official problem with the download, rather that many of us have gone ahead by installing, without having to do so, the profile and the version that was exclusively for developers and of course, now that interferes with the update to the public beta version.

Do not forget that iOS 10 public beta is a preliminary version that is in testing phase and therefore some applications may not work properly.
