OS X Recovery

More protection for your Mac

We already know that the Mac OS X system is very safe and that it almost never gives us problems, but what to do when we have lost information or for some reason the hard drive has crashed? with option OS X Recovery you can repair discs or reinstall the operating system without the need for a physical disc. Surely many of you have not considered what you should do when the hard drive says enough and you run out of a computer. Well the last update of OS X Mountain Lion comes with an option called Disk Recovery that makes it easier for you when a catastrophe has occurred. You no longer have to go looking for your Mac box to find the installation DVDs and get your computer working again.

Command + R to the rescue

Hold down the Command + R keys during startup, and OS X Recovery will be activated instantly. You will have several options to choose from. For example, you can open Disk Utility to check your hard drive for errors, repair it, format it, and reinstall OS X, or restore your Mac from a Time Machine backup. You can also use Safari to access Apple's support website and, if OS X Recovery detects a problem, automatically connect to Apple's servers over the Internet.

Time Machine saves your Mac every day. And it can save you the year

Set up Time Machine to back up your Mac automatically. Thus, every time you need to restore your hard drive with OS X Recovery, Time Machine will take care of leaving it as it was. Say goodbye to data loss.

Internet recovery. Jump with net

If the problem with your Mac is a bit more complex (for example, if the hard drive fails or you have installed a hard drive without OS X), Internet recovery is activated automatically. Download and launch OS X Recovery directly from Apple's servers through a broadband Internet connection, and access the OS X Recovery capabilities over the Web. Internet recovery capability is included on all Macs new from Mac mini and MacBook Air.

Restore the Mac yourself

Some Macs with OS X do not support Internet recovery. In that case, you can use the Recovery Disk Wizard. It creates a bootable USB disk with OS X Recovery to restore your Mac or even reinstall OS X from Apple servers.
To create an external OS X Recovery, download the OS X Recovery Disk Wizard application. Insert an external disk, run the wizard, select the drive where you want it to be installed, and follow the onscreen instructions.
After the completion of the OS X Recovery Disk Wizard, the new partition will not be visible in the Finder or in Disk Utility. To access OS X Recovery, restart your computer while holding down the Option key. Select Recovery Disc in Boot Manager.
