Less than a week left for the new one apple event, announced for next Tuesday, April 20. And one of the devices that are presented may be a new iMac from the Apple Silicon era, which is much needed in the market, especially for large professional clients.

Maxon has just launched its professional rendering application Redshift for Macs, both Intel and M1. And one of his clients, animation production company Lunar Animation, is amazed at the speed of rendering the renders. The funny thing is that he has only been able to test it on a Mac mini or a MacBook Pro from Apple Silicon. You will be among the first to buy a few iMacs for your study.

Maxon posted today that its popular Redshift rendering software is launching for macOS. The Software runs smoothly both on computers with Intel processors and on the new Apple Silicon with ARM M1 processors taking advantage of the Metal API Apple.

Redshift, offers a rich set of features including raytracing, flexible shading grids, motion blur, AOV, deep exit, layered EXR, and much more. Unlike other GPU renderers, Redshift is a professional rendering software which allows artists to fine-tune the quality of individual techniques to obtain the best performance / quality balance for production.

The software is optimized to run on both Macs with Intel processors and newer ones with ARM architecture, and the company says the first results show a spectacular performance on Macs with M1.

Lunar Animation "amazed" with the performance of the M1

Early Redshift testers on macOS have reported some very significant performance results. James Rodgers, Director of Lunar Animation, based in the UK, has been impressed.

His words after trying Redshift on an Apple Silicon were: "We're seeing some 'crazy' results when rendering with Redshift on a Macbook Pro M1. A typical frame with very heavy effects that we created for Mythic Legends, an action-packed strategy mobile game from Outfit7, previously took 26 minutes to render a single frame. Now it's rendering in just 58 seconds! "

Redshift for Intel Macs will be available this week. The version for the Apple Silicon will be released when it is available macOS BigSur 11.3. In the meantime, if you are interested in trying Redshift for macOS, you can find a beta test version at websites by Maxon.
