Among the new functions offered by the new Apple operating system for your computers, there are several improvements aimed at making interaction easier for us with our Mac. "Enhanced Dictation" can be useful for many people with vision problems or similar.

One of those functions, very useful if we use our Mac frequently to be able to listen to the text that we have on the screen, in some text editor or similar, is this function of the "Improved dictation". This allows us, without the need to be connected to the internet, to use the dictation services on the Mac.

In fact, I understand that all Mac users have tried this feature at some point. However, there are users who do not see this relevant feature. Rather, they see it somewhat heavy and find it useless for them. To do this, we bring the way how to easily remove said support from our Mac.

First of all, we must know that in order to execute the improved dictation it is necessary to download support files from Apple. If we don't use it, it is better to deactivate the "Improved dictation", otherwise the files will remain there occupying space important in our memory. Therefore, the best thing if we do not want it is to remove the files from our Mac.

This first step is carried out as follows:

  • System preferences.
  • Keyboard.
  • Dictation.
  • We uncheck the option of "Enhanced Dictation".

Second, once deactivated, and to remove the files, we go to where they are located:

/ System / Library / Speech / Recognizers / SpeechRecognitionCoreLanguages /

There we will have a folder for each version of the improved dictation referring to each language used. If you only use Spanish, the folder will be called "Es_ES.SpeechRecognition" and occupies about 840 mB. The only thing left to do is delete that folder entirely. You will need your admin password to be able to perform this last process.
