Review: BookArc, a wonderful stand for your MacBook Pro

I am one of many who uses the MacBook also as a desktop computer, so a priori a stand is something quite essential. Before I used a basic one that allowed me to have the Mac a bit elevated on the table, but now is the time to switch to something different: the BookArc.

Quality from the start

I have no money left over but I don't mind paying a little more for a good quality product, and that's the case with the BookArc. The box is of exquisite quality, pleasant to the touch and to the eye, both for a user who knows about unboxing as for someone who does not. I would say that, including all Apple products I own, the packaging quality of the BookArc is clearly superior from every aspect.

Once we open it, we find an aluminum stand and an adapter for the Non-unibody MacBook and for white MacBook, something that I have not used but in case the flies I have preferred to keep.

Aluminum and practicality

The BookArc is made entirely of aluminum except for the rubbers that ensure the good grip of the Mac. The finish is simply perfectDespite its peculiar structure, I can assure you that it perfectly resists any accidental lateral push without falling, which reassures those of us who have climbing cats around the house.

At the bottom we find a rubber that allows us to pass the cables underneath in case we want to have them collected, a great idea that Apple has been using in iMac for many years and that is reflected in the BookArc.

Conclusion

I have several stands, but this is the best. And it is not a question of explaining it, but of seeing it, touching it and feeling that the design is worked so that it seems to anyone that it is a product that came with the MacBook when we bought it.

You can buy it on Amazon, although for now only MacBook Air is available.

It looks good, the bad thing is the cables that are hanging. Another thing, where did you buy it? at what price?
The last image ... macbook pro + apple cinema display is about 2500 euros. Imac 27 ″ = 1700 euros.

It will be € 2500, but you can take it wherever you want, instead the imac of 27 ...

Javier, you can buy it at Amazon.com but only for the Air, I don't know why they don't have the one available for the MacBook Pro: S

Now I leave it linked to the article.

Oh, and I'm with Pepito, personally where an MBP with SSD + a good screen is… you have power and mobility at the same time.

I discarded this stand because since the laptop is always closed, it does not do the job of dissipating the heat through the case well, especially because where it gets hotter is around the Esc key ...
... and I came to the conclusion because, without a stand or anything, at first I used it closed and when I noticed in that area that I say the aluminum turned brown and the finish of the screen looks strange.
Not that I want to scare Carlinhos but this issue of temperature seems like a detail to take into account.

I have it for my 13 ″ macbook pro and it's great I bought it at applestore:
    http://store.apple.com/es/product/H6364ZM/A
I have it plugged into a 24 ″ screen and great. Due to the temperature it is always around 55º if you are sailing and a little more if you are giving it cane, bone from what I observe the same as when you are with the open, no difference ..

    Hello
an experience with this device (which is really very nice) I acquired it 1 year ago I used it 2 months and mysteriously my hard drive began to fail until it could no longer be recovered and I had to change it, the truth was never attributed to this gadget, I stopped using it to discard anything for a period of 3 months if problem again I started using it for about 3 months with it and again problems with the hard disk I no longer attributed it to a coincidence and it I have stopped using, I do not know if someone has experienced a problem of this type that shared it and if it is common, avoid bad times for another computer user, as I would like they had done with me.

I had one. The macbook heats up, which is nice to have the screen closed, not recommended.

I don't understand the heating. On Apple's page they even say that by connecting the magsafe you can use it closed with an external screen ...

  10.   pachito said

Is it that if it is not with a charger and an external screen, what is the stand for? Just to keep it when you don't use it?
What is not understood is that the Apple page does not give a warning to users who squeeze the Macbook, because logically the computer gets hotter.

As far as I have been able to see on Apple.com, the brand does not put any problem using the MacBook like this. The heat almost entirely dissipates from behind -which is done the same with the stand- and in fact you can find in Apple's help section some manuals to be able to use the Mac like this.

I suppose that if they knew (and who better than Apple to know) that using the MacBook in this way is harmful in the long run, they would be the first to warn it and avoid it, since repairing Macs under warranty is not exactly free I imagine.

Conclusion: It may affect some bugs, but from my opinion it is not a determining element, although it can help a failure to become something more serious.

As I said and as Pachito says the computer gets hot that you shit, I say it from experience and I know what Apple says on its website, I also read it in its day and I bought the stand but the reality is different.
The macbook dissipates behind and throughout the case, hence the fact that it is all aluminum because aluminum itself dissipates heat so if you obstruct by closing with the screen it heats up much more.
If we run any software that consumes resources, for example a steam game or open the fans are put at 6000 laps in a few seconds and the temperature rises which is great. If you open the lid it is not like that.
This happened to me with my macbook pro core 2 duo, the current iX manage energy performance much better but I imagine that it will happen similar especially when you also make intensive use of the graphics card.
    I said.

@David: I just did tests having it open and closed (on the booth). Below results.

With Safari, iTunes and some more working: 54º Open 55º Closed
With Lightroom importing photos at the same fan speed (set manually by me): 63º Open, 65º Closed

I honestly do not think it is a difference that makes a computer break before ... but of course, it is my opinion and my Mac, there will be others who, as you say, by design, may suffer more ...

  14.   David said

    Sorry to duplicate.
@Carlinhos: Safari and iTunes are programs that mainly use RAM, this practically does not increase the temperature. When importing photos to Lightroom you do not make intensive use of your machine since you are only writing data to the hard disk.
To make intensive use is to use the processor, the graphics or both at the same time.
I give you some examples in case you want to do some closed and open tests.
Process raw files for 20 minutes using brushes in Lightroom.
Convert an entire movie to avi or mkv using handbrake.
Play Team Fortress 2 on Steam for 30 minutes.
You will see how your macbook starts to sweat and you are not so funny about your stand, I say it without acrimony.
    A greeting.

Tomorrow I will do some more test. It is true that the grades go up somewhat, but hey, it is one of many things that contribute. I still think that it does not influence whether it breaks or not, yes, if in the next few months it bursts inside you will be the first to know my fail.

But, I don't think it is very good to have the computer working and closed, I understand that it breathes through the back and because of the keyboard, when the respirator is closed, the back slot closes, I don't play it.
