MailDrop, a feature for sending attachments up to 5GB in size, was introduced as extra functionality within Mail for Mac with the release of OS X 10.10 Yosemite in 2014. Later and with iOS 9.2, Apple brought Mail Drop to its mobile mail application natively on iOS devices.
Now we can also send this type of large attachments through the Mail application on iCloud.com, that is, it will not be necessary have a Mac to use MailDrop since from any compatible browser we can open our Apple account from iCloud.com and send the emails we need using the aforementioned Mail Drop.
In another article we already talked about Mail Drop and the ability to attach large files as attachments in Mail, so now we will focus on explaining how to do it through iCloud.com. First of all, it must be clarified that Mail Drop will only be activated with files that exceed 20 MB in size.
To activate it on iCloud.com, we will only have to access the web and once inside the home screen of our account, click on Mail and later in the lower gear of the screen to go to Preferences as you can see in the attached image.
Once inside preferences, we will go to the Drafting tab to enable the option "Use Mail Drop to send large attachments", taking into account the limitation of which we are warned when activating this optionIn other words, email recipients will only be able to download these files from iCloud for 30 days after they are sent.
When we have the option active, we will click Accept and create a new email pressing Option (⌥) -Shift (⇧) -N, to attach either from the clip symbol or from any finder window (dragging and dropping) the file / files in question, and thus send the mail to the recipient. It is possible that we get some kind of warning in relation to the fact that the attachment is too large and that the Mail Drop option will be used.
The loading time will obviously depend on our connection and the size of the attachment, being able at any time cancel attachment upload if we decide to send it in smaller parts. In any case, it must be taken into account that Mail Drop has a space limit of up to 1 Terabyte of space, so if we have previously sent many large attachments that have taken up all this space, we will have to wait for it to empty ( 30 days have passed) to attach more, since the option to manually delete them is not available.
