This will be the new Apple Campus

  • Minimalist and innovative design.
  • Devised by Steve Jobs and developed by Norman Foster.
  • Inspired by the orchards of California and Stanford University.
  • A green and sustainable space.
  • A place of leisure and work.

It was one of the last projects of the disappeared Steve Jobs for which, unfortunately, he was left in a dream. But that dream continues with the firm idea of becoming one of the most desired and envied workspaces in the world. In fact, the own Jobs defined it as "The best office building in the world." Here we show you all the details of the new Apple Campus in Cupertino (California).

Just a couple of weeks ago we showed you one aerial image and video  that put in evidence that the lands where the Apple campus they were now practically free of the previous HP facilities to begin new construction.

The Steve Jobs Campus.

A few months before passing away, Steve Jobs presented the project of new apple campus to the city council of the town of Cupertino, an ambitious project in the form of a "spaceship", close to the current facilities and connected to them through an underground tunnel that, after the corresponding feasibility study and timely submission deadlines, obtained the definitive permit on November 19 by the city council. These procedures have caused the Apple campus vea its opening delayed until 2016, but the project is progressing steadily and will end up being a reality.

And the "green" design by Norman Foster.

The design of this new Apple campus is in charge of the famous British architect N awarded the Pritzker and Prince of Asturias Awards for the Arts in 1999 and 2009 respectively. He shares with Jonathan Ive that they both hold the honorary title of Knights of the British Court (Sir Norman Foster). Among others, he is responsible for the communications tower of Collserola, in Barcelona, built on the occasion of the Olympic games held in Barcelona in 1992.

The new Apple campus It will be located on a 71-hectare site where around 13.000 "app-employees" will work (and enjoy).

The entire occupied space will have the 80% of its surface covered by vegetation  thanks to the plantation of 6000 trees which will replace the previous asphalt since the facilities' parking lot will be underground and with capacity for two thousand vehicles. The remaining 20% will be occupied by an immense building of Sqm 260.000, in the form of a ring and four plants.

Energy consumption of the Apple Campus.

But responsibility of Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), with the environment it does not stop at planting thousands of trees. The building will be equipped with glass walls that will allow natural lighting (very important in a region like California with a large volume of annual hours of sunshine) and that will also have built-in solar energy panels.

The power that most of the building will run on will come from the gas natural while the local electricity grid would only be used in emergencies.

As to ventilation system, its circular shape and the conformation of the gigantic windows will give it a ventilation natural to the entire building for 70% of the annual time, which implies low energy consumption in air conditioning.

“You can see the energy, the love and the attention to detail that we have put into this. We have treated this project as we would any Apple product "said Peter Oppenheimer, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Apple, who as you know will be stepping down next September.

Apple Campus: Internal Displacement.

The movement of workers through the campus will also be carried out in a "very responsible" way: thousand bicycles will be available to staff to move around these circular offices.

Although the design has been developed by the aforementioned architect Foster, this organic and circular hallmark was inspiration from his own Steve Jobs, who was based on his memories of youth in California:

“The benchmark for Steve (Jobs) was always the large space on the Stanford campus that he knew intimately. He remembered the days when he was young and in California there were still orchards "Norman Foster commented in an interview for the newspaper Dailymail, also mentioning that the circular building was also Jobs' idea and that it will have a private space in the center, where these orchards will be replicated.

Endowments of the new Apple Campus.

The new Apple campus It will not be a typical workplace, but rather it is designed to "live" in it those hours of the day dedicated to work; It is a space that "takes care" of the worker, making his work a pleasant stage. For this reason, the campus will have cafeterias, lobbies, a gym, as well as, obviously, spaces dedicated to research and even an auditorium with capacity for a thousand people, which will be where Tim CookCEO Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, will present the new products of the bitten apple company.

There is no doubt that the new Apple campus It will be the envy and the fruit of desire of any worker, wouldn't you like to work, at least, in a similar place?
