Take advantage of the beginning of the year 2018 to clean your Mac

This is something that usually recurs in soy de Mac and from time to time we want to remember you how important it is to do a small (or large) cleaning of your Mac every so often so that it works much better. In this case we are not talking about something strange and it is that on numerous occasions and especially when we have to install a new version of macOS, we usually recommend doing these cleanings.

Of course we are not talking about cleaning the external part of the equipment or the keyboard, that too. Many are the applications, programs, photos, files, documents and other software that we have not used on our Mac for a long time and now that the year begins is a good time to eliminate them.

Actually, if we usually carry out a little maintenance every day, we will not need to clean our disk or we will have to spend less time on it. But this is something that few users do and that is why it is best to get used to it or choose a date of the year to thoroughly clean the equipment. Many say they wait when updating macOS, but in those moments what there is is desire to carry out the installation and little to clean so come on, let's get to work.

macOS 10.12.2 Fixes Time Machine Crashing on New MacBook Pros

Make a Backup

The first of all is to make a backup in case we delete something that we did not want to delete. This is a step that we cannot do without when cleaning the Mac, and if we can have a backup on an external disk and then save it disconnected from the computer, the better.

It is advisable to have several backup copies of everything that is important on our Mac and as always what we recommend is have a backup in our Time Machine. We can use other tools but the best one for us is Apple's own.

Organize folders and documents

Organizing the photo folders or entertaining yourself to classify PDFs, documents and the like by name is something very interesting too. To do this, it is best to select all the documents that we want to order and rename them so that they are arranged alphabetically. This can also be done with photos, text documents or everything that we can include within the same folder.

Run First Aid

Once the cleaning is finished it is good to run First Help. For those who do not know "First Aid" is something similar to Disk Permission Repair that we did a long time ago. Apple modified it a while ago and although it is true that you can also do something similar to the repair of permissions, it is best to directly use this option that we find in Disk Utility. We access Disk Utility, and click on the disk that we want to analyze. This method will check the disk for errors. Following, will repair the disc if necessary and you are ready to receive the new version without errors.

Logically it is not all that we can do in this type of cleaning, but to start the year with the equipment ready it is already something. If you are one of those who uses a software or application to clean your Mac, perfect, but remember that not everything is eliminated with them and it is good to do small manual adjustments. Logically all this is not necessary if one does not want to do it, we can do without these cleanings and that our Mac continues to work perfectly, but it is something that will surely be great for us to organize ourselves and as the Spanish proverb says: "Once a year does not hurt"

TODAY I am going to start doing that cleaning and order. But something happens to me: Disk Utility is always checked and my Imac freezes. What should I do. Thank you for the help you can offer me.
