Firesheep is an extension for Firefox (Mac OS X, Windows) that makes it extremely easy for us to do something that was possible before, but surely you haven't tried. I am referring to capturing packets on a public network to steal third party sessions. When installing the plugin, it will be placed in the sidebar to listen to the interesting data that comes to it, and when it finds one with data from a session, it will show us its name and photo.
Using HTTPS in the login is a custom of practically every page or web service, but later, in the rest of the navigation, this protocol is not used, so that anyone, with some knowledge, can impersonate us just by sharing the same Wi-Fi network.
Eric Butler, a software and applications developer has made this plugin for Firefox that gives anyone the ability to hack into a Facebook account, or anything else, through an automated process and that he presented during ToorCon (a Hacker conference in San Diego, United States) to demonstrate how fragile our Internet security is.
Firesheep is free, open source, and works on any system where Firefox works. Windows users need to have Winpcap libraries installed.
I stopped being interested in this type of thing a few years ago (I just realized that I am almost a grandfather) but whoever wants to investigate and play can download Firesheep from HERE.
