With all the new features presented it was clear that related applications should be updated to support new devices. This is the case of the Airport utility on Mac, which is updated to support the new routers presented by Apple, both Airport Extreme and Time Capsule.
It basically consists of adding support to the application in order to manage connections under Wi-Fi 802.11ac, which is becoming the star protocol as it is the new integration in all the equipment that Apple is presenting.
In addition they also refer to improved functions in managing remote connections. Now we will be able to transfer content up to three times faster than before, especially when using the multiple communication bands that the 802.11ac protocol will use.
Actually this update does not introduce any relevant change to mention but rather is a slight tweak to the existing version 6.2 to update its interface when we connect one of the new Airport bases and thus give it the ability to handle connections under the Wi-Fi 802.11ac protocol. On the contrary, I think that since version 6 of this utility, instead of improving access and adding more functions to it, they went for the worse by layering options until then available such as the configuration assistant for routers or that already some Old bases stopped working or could not be administered.
In short, I think that the interface redesign since version 6 is more pleasant, with a touch »iOS» and much simpler and minimalist, creating the network chart automatically in a more visual way and that has not been to everyone's liking. It can be downloaded from the Software Update option integrated into the system or from manual way from Apple support pages
