the App Store already supports reservations for new applications up to 180 days in advance

pre-order

Apple has just doubled the maximum reservation time of a new application in the App Store, which goes from 90 to 180 days. It is certainly good news for developers of applications and games (especially for the big ones).

Although it is somewhat illogical. Reserving an order is normally done to ensure that you will be among the first to receive a product at its launch, avoiding possible out of stock (I have already reserved my iPhone 12 Pro just in case…). In digital content that cannot happen. But it is a very common practice, especially in the sector of video games.

Four years ago, Apple let Nintendo offered Super Mario Run on reservation through the App Store, since the game was presented during the keynote presentation of the iPhone 7. A year later, the company opened this possibility to all developers, with a maximum of 90 days between the start of the reservation and the launch of the application. Now it has just doubled to 180 days.

If a user decides to reserve a new application, the App Store will send a reminder to the customer once the app is released for download. After that, the application will automatically download to your device. This, of course, is exclusively available for new apps that have not yet been released on the App Store.

Booking digital content is very usual, especially in the video game market. Normally, these advance reservations are accompanied by a promotion by the developer, with some exclusive content, such as characters or being able to play demos before its launch.

Well now Apple has doubled the period reserve, which goes from 90 days to 180 days. A good initiative to help the group of developers, who lately seem to be navigating a somewhat choppy river.
