Will Smith's film "Emancipation" for Apple TV + seeks new settings

Emancipation

Last July, we published a news related to the new content coming to Apple TV + with renowned actors. We talk about the movie Emancipation, starring Will Smith, directed by Antoine Fuqua and The filming of which was scheduled to begin in Georgia in June.

However, both Will Smith and the director, Antoine Fuqua, have changed their minds due to the Georgia's new restrictive voting law. Previously, Tim Cook had already spoken out against the new law of this state that limits access to vote.

As we can read in The Hollywood Reporter, the movie Emancipation is first major production that leaves  the state because of this new law. In the statement that Will Smith and Antoine Fuqua have sent to the media, we can read:

Right now, the nation is reconciling with its history and is trying to remove vestiges of institutional racism to achieve true racial justice.

We cannot, in conscience, provide financial support to a government that enacts regressive voting laws that are designed to restrict voter access.

Georgia's new voting laws are reminiscent of voting impediments that were passed at the end of Reconstruction to prevent many Americans from voting.

Unfortunately, we feel compelled to relocate our film production work from Georgia to another state.

Emancipation will star Will Smith in the role of a runaway slave "On a tortuous journey to the North, where he joins the Union army." Written by William N. Collage, the film is based on a true story.

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), bought the rights to the film for $ 100 million. Considering that production was scheduled for June, the film will most likely delay its release date both in theaters and on Apple TV +.
