The EU imposes a fine on Qualcomm of 997 million euros

Apple Qualcomm

They do not leave one that they get into another. And now the European Union wants to impose a fine to the multinational Qualcomm amounting to 997 million euros. This fine has nothing to do with Apple directly but is motivated by the components that Qualcomm adds to the bitten apple products.

It seems that the discount for the large number of purchases that Apple has made from Qualcomm for its components have been interpreted by the EU, as cunfair competition or rather as a kind of "bribery" to the Cupertino firm so that they will not look at components from other firms.

All this is a bit confusing since it is normal that massive purchases of products these "discounts" are made on some components, but of course, it seems that Qualcomm would also be promoting discounts that are impossible to counteract by the rest of the firms and this action logically prevents Apple from looking for other brands of components for its products. This over the years is a major problem for those brands that are not Qualcomm and the EU imposes a severe fine.

Fine of 997 million euros

The figure may seem small considering Qualcomm is a large company, but it is a good peak. This amount would mean about 4,7% of its annual income for the company and taking into account that it has already lost one of its main buyers (Apple) forever. can be a real problem.

Evidently Qualcomm official sources have already said publicly that they will file an appeal not to pay this amount of money. All this adds to the already important problems that the company has with Apple and the crossed demands between the two.
