At the event on the 13th, Apple honored the rumors and HomePod mini was unveiled. This has come as a blow to those who wanted a HomePod upgrade. However, a totally new device has been introduced and it has been announced that if you buy two, you can join them and turn them into stereo. Someone has wondered if the old speaker and the new one will be compatible. The answer is no, But the HomePod has a surprise in store for the future.
When the HomePod mini was presented at the event on Tuesday and the possibilities of synchronization between two of them to make them stereos were alluded to, someone wondered if the same could be done but with the original HomePod. The point is that doubts have quickly been found. It's like pairing an AirPod in one ear and an AirPod Pro in the other. The answer is therefore a resounding no. You can make a stereo pair of two HomePods or two HomePod minis, but you can't mix and match the two products.
We will not be able to form a stereo set between the two devices. So if you think that your HomePod is already a device that will soon be part of your collection of antiques, you are very confused. You can't undo it yet, since hides a huge surprise related to Apple TV and the possibility of broadcasting in 4K.
An update is on the way for the original HomePod that will add many features that come with the HomePod mini, including Intercom, personal update, Map continuity, multi-user support for Podcasts, and support for third-party music services like Pandora and Amazon Music. Best of all, there will be an additional feature exclusive to the original HomePod: It will add an immersive home theater experience when paired with a 4K Apple TV.
We can get 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos surround sound pairing one or two HomePod speakers to the Apple TV. This feature requires HomePod spatial sound support, so it is not available for the HomePod mini.
