The HomePod will be compatible with third-party music services

HomePod Spotify

Apple announced yesterday afternoon, Spanish time, many of the news that will come from the hand of the next versions of all its operating systems. Ever since Apple launched the HomePod, much has been said about the possibility that this device was natively compatible with other services streaming music.

As of today, we can use AirPlay if we want to use other streaming music services other than Apple Music, but it requires a separate device, be it an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. With the next version of the HomePod operating system, as we could see in the presentation, it will no longer be necessary.

In the slide where Apple announced the main novelties that will come from the Home application, we can see at the bottom, the image of the HomePod with the text "third-party music services." This option, if in the end refers to the availability of Spotify on the HomePodFor obvious reasons, Apple did not mention it, but it will undoubtedly be one of the novelties that users who continue to trust both Spotify and Tidal or other streaming music services will appreciate.

Thanks to this compatibility, we will be able to enjoy the music from our Spotify account, to put the example most desired by users, directly from HomePod. Hopefully Siri is up to the task and is able to recognize voice commands and correctly play the songs or playlists we want.

Most likely, Apple made the decision to open its speaker to other music streaming services to boost sales of its speaker, since the exclusivity of Apple Music, probably is weighing on the sales of this device.
