The Mac App Store already accepts application updates that require macOS Big Sur

In recent weeks many have been the developers who they have not wanted to wait until the last moment to make your applications compatible with the next version of macOS that will hit the market next November 12th, as confirmed by Apple during the presentation of the new range of Mac with ARM processors.

However, the developers could not send updates to the Mac App Store that required Big Sur to offer any of the new features that come with this version of macOS. Since yesterday it is possible to send for review the applications that rely on Big Sur to add new functions and that take advantage of the new functionalities of the M1 chip.

Apple has made this announcement through its developer portal, where we can read:

MacOS Big Sur compatibility

With the release of macOS Big Sur, all computers prior to 2012 are no longer supported with this new version, so Catalina will be the last version that will continue to work correctly on your computers. The Macs that can be upgraded to Big Sur are the following:

  • MacBook Air 2013 and later
  • MacBook Pro 2013 and later
  • The Mac Pro in all its versions since 2013
  • Mac min 2014 and later
  • 2014 and later iMac
  • MacBook 2015 and later
  • IMac Pro from 2017 to current model
