At the time of the launch of Apple's new screen, the Studio Display, it was mentioned that one of its best features was the Webcam. However, time and user testing showed the world that this was not the case. In fact, the camera quality of the very expensive screen was quite poor. It has been said that with light it is deficient and without it, very bad. This is something that Apple can not tolerate and therefore promised that updates would be released, to solve these problems. Said and done, at least the updates. Because Although version 15.5 has been released, it seems that the quality of the camera is still water.
The poor quality of the camera of the Studio Display is not a software issue
Apple confirms that the third beta version for developers of macOS Monterey 12.4 too contains an update for Studio Display which, it says, fixes the poor quality of its webcam. Although the Apple display runs a version of iOS, a new version has also been released, the 15.5 and that is the one that has been incorporated into the display. However, it seems that the objective of this new firmware was to fix this poor quality and it seems that it has not been achieved.
The new update is available for those who connect the Studio Display to a Mac running the latest beta version of macOS Monterey, 12.4 beta 3. The update option then appears in System Preferences with a hefty 487MB file size. But the problem is that the performance of the webcam it's still less than the 24-inch iMac or the 27-inch Intel iMac. It's also significantly worse than the iPhone 13's selfie camera.
It seems that the problem is not software. Pity, because with the price of the screen and being from Apple, these things should not happen.
