The new 15 ″ MacBook Pro Retina is the only one that currently supports 5k resolutions

More and more resolution is established as a determining factor when choosing a monitor, although it has always been an important point, now it seems that it is even more so for what if you just bought a MacBook Pro Retina 15 ″ Top of the range with Force Touch, you're in luck because you're already the proud owner of Apple's first laptop capable of handling 5k resolutions on external monitors.

Also unsurprisingly, this new 15-inch MacBook Pro also supports 4k displays with 4.096 by 2.160 resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate.

According to Apple's support documents, these detail the computer's ability to use 4k displays and UHD televisions. However, for now only for the consumer market the most popular monitor with 5k resolution that is not exactly the iMac, we refer to the 2715-inch Dell UP27K and that officially the new 15 ″ MacBook Pro supports it through a double cable .

Some displays with resolutions higher than 4K, such as the aforementioned Dell monitor, require two DisplayPort cables to display full resolution, apart from the Dell display, Apple does not support other 5K monitors yet. The OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 software update originally enabled the support for 5K resolutions and we refer for example to the 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K screen and the 2013 2013 Mac Pro, now they are also joined by the new MacBook Pro that can support both 4K and 5K monitors as well.

This year's first models of the new MacBook already supported 4K resolutions in 3840 by 2160 pixels at 60 Hz. But thanks to the new AMD Radeon R9 M370X80 GPU which is 80 percent faster, the same equipment practically in all other aspects is already capable of handling resolutions on monitors 4K at 4096 by 2160 at 60Hz, even in dual cable setups with 5k resolution as we just said.
