How to delete data from the Touch Bar

touch bar

The Touch Bar, currently only equipped on MacBook Pro, stores additional information for the operation of the same and the Touch ID, which they are not automatically erased when you format your Mac or reinstall the operating system. In this way, if you want to erase any trace of the Touch Bar, you will have to proceed to the erasure manually, a process that only works, of course, on MacBook Pro that have this OLED touch screen. Delete all the data on this OLED touch panel, it is only necessary if you plan to sell the Mac, you are going to send it to technical service or you want to perform a clean installation of the operating system, as if you had just bought the MacBook Pro.

The erasure process, too will delete all the fingerprints that are stored in the Touch ID integrated in the Touch Bar and to do so you must follow the steps that I detail below. You can continue reading with complete peace of mind since the process is very simple and you don't have to be an expert to do it.

  • First of all, we must start the MAc in Recovery Mode, proceeding to press the Command + R key while it is booting.
  • Within macOS Utilities, click on Utilities and select Terminal.
  • Then we write the following text without the quotes: "xartutil –erase-all"

Clarification. In front of "erase" there are two hyphens, although visually only one is shown.

  • We write Yes in the confirmation message. Then we restart the Mac and we will begin to reinstall the operating system, formatting the hard drive, or doing what has forced us to delete all the data stored in the Touch Bar of the 2016 MacBook Pro.

This process is responsible for removing the data from the Touch Bar, it does not force a restart if it is working erratically.
