This is the LED matrix that shows the moving symbols on the HomePod

Apple's HomePod is a marvel of engineering not only hardware but also audio and it is the first speaker that at my 39 years I have been able to verify that it has an extreme sound quality far exceeding what we can see in other brands . A few days ago I showed my HomePod unit to a theater sound technician who it is capable of hearing even if the theater lights emit sound as noise on the audio signal that is being broadcast.

When he heard the HomePod, it did not take him minutes to say that it is a very compact device for the sound quality it can generate. That the bass he can recreate are amazing and that, on top of that, the absence of button controls to give way to touch control gives it an extra point.

As I have already told you, the HomePod has a touch surface under which an LED matrix has been placed to generate all 5 low resolution motion pictures in different colors and in motion. We say that the images are low resolution because it really is not a small LED screen in which there are thousands of pixels but a matrix with 19 LEDs.

This matrix with 19 LEDs has a circular shape and they have been arranged in rows, starting with a row of 5 LEDs in the central area, then four LEDs on each side of that central row and ending with another two rows with three LEDs, in total 19 LEDs. That matrix is manufactured by Texas Instrument and has the following encoding,  Texas Instruments TLC 5971 LED Driver.

So that the images can be generated, this component can be programmed and to make the image more fluid, a small white translucent area has been placed on top of it. lets see a more diffuse light, thus being able to generate the images that we already show you in another article.
