This is the PowerColor Mini Pro, a small eGPU

PowerColor mini eGPU

More and more eGPU options appear for all user profiles: higher or lower power, larger or smaller, where low noise is prioritized or where it is not relevant. Today we know an option from the Taiwanese manufacturer, PowerColor.

The product that it offers us is an eGPU that the first thing that catches our attention is its reduced size compared to other models already valued such as the BlackMagic. Inside the black chassis we find the graphic RadeonRX570. This eGPU is specially designed for computers that have a connection thunderbold 3 and require more graphic power than contained.

It is therefore especially useful for the last 2018 MacBook Air and 2018 Mac mini, but it can be used with any computer that has Thunderbolt 3. Another remarkable feature is the possibility of update the GPU that is inside. This is one 570GB AMD Radeon RX 8. And the dimensions is the other most characteristic part: 215 x 153 x 68 mm. which make that when you pick it up for the first time it seems that you have more an old hard drive than an eGPU.

PowerColor mini eGPU and its performance

In the least favorable part of the box is the feeding that this is external instead of being powered by the USB-C connection of our Mac. The second negative factor is the sonority. Reduced space usually means more heating due to dissipation problems, other larger eGPUs have larger fans that reduce heat noise. On the front it has two entrances USB-A for direct connection, without the need to connect another Dock to our Mac.

The last relevant section of this box is the graphic power. We can say that it fulfills its mission compared to other graphs with similar characteristics. If you are thinking if you are interested in having an eGPU of these characteristics, we can say that the tests with expensive video processes in Final Cut Pro X and DaVinci Resolve, times are reduced by up to 5 times. If we compare it with similar graphics such as the Gigabyte RX 580, the results obtained are very similar. Finally, the price of the PowerColor Mini Pro is 506,98€
